Q & A

Does massage treatment hurt?

Some techniques of massage therapy may cause soreness or discomfort. Please let your Massage Therapist know if the pressure is too intense.

Do I have to talk during my massage?

It is not mandatory to have a conversation with your Massage Therapist. Feel free to allow yourself to relax and close your eyes during treatment. Your Massage Therapist may speak to you during the treatment regarding pressure. It is important to communicate if you are feeling too hot or cold, experiencing pain, or any other concern.

How much clothing should I remove for massage treatment?

You can undress to your level of comfort. You will always be properly covered with sheets during treatment.

It is my first time getting a massage treatment. Will this appointment be a consultation/assessment only?

Each massage treatment includes 3 parts:
1) an assessment and review of your completed health history form
2) the massage treatment, and
3) self-care advice at the end of the treatment.
More time may be spent reviewing your Health History form on the first massage appointment to ensure that you receive a treatment that meets your needs.

Why was my treatment shorter than the time specified in the booking?

With the exception of Massage, Osteopathic, and Podiatric treatment, the duration of service is structured in a way that allows the practitioner adequate time to find and resolve the issue of the complaint. Our goal is to solve the issue and not necessarily take up the whole time.

I am a regular client and I have received treatment before. Why was I charged for an Initial appointment instead of Follow Up?

Chiropractic, Physiotherapy, Osteopathic, Podiatric, and Acupuncture services can be booked as an Initial or Follow Up treatment. Initial sessions are implemented if the patient has not seen the same practitioner for six or more months for the same complaint, or the patient presents a new condition other than the one treated at any period of the time. We charge this fee on the first appointment per calendar year as per insurance policy.

For Massage Services, will all areas indicated be massaged?

When you book a Massage, you can choose one area which you prefer for the therapist to focus on, or you can discuss with your Massage Therapist what is your priority and what is your goal for the session.
You have multiple practitioners for the service I need. How do I know which practitioner I can book with?

You have multiple practitioners for the service I need. How do I know which practitioner I can book with?

If we have more than one practitioner for the service, practitioner selected is based on:
- Your preference (For example: male or female RMT, time/date selected during booking, etc.)
- Your insurance coverage (For example: Manual Osteopaths have select coverage for insurance companies. To ensure successful billing, please inquire if your insurance is compatible with the coverage of the practitioner)

Is there a fee if I cancel my appointment at the last minute or if I do not show up?

We value your business and commit to the time slot you requested.

As a courtesy to other clients urgently waiting to have an appointment slot as well as to the therapists themselves, please notify us as soon as possible if you wish to cancel your appointment. If you do wish to cancel your appointment, you must do so at least 24 hours prior to your appointment time to avoid a "missed appointment" bill of the full appointment fee.

Missed appointment fees are not eligible for direct billing or insurance compensation.

What should I do if I need to cancel my appointment?

Call them as soon as you know

What should I do if I am feeling ill on the day of my appointment?

If you have a fever or a cough related to flu/cold symptoms, please cakk the clinic as early as possible to reschedule your appointment. Massage is contraindicated for fevers and can exacerbate flue-like symptoms. Please leave a message for your therapist if you need advice. It will be highly appreciated if you can send someone in to cover your reserved slot.

Can someone else come in my place if I can't make my booked appointment?

To accommodate our clientele, we need a minimum of 24 hours' notice of cancellation and/or rescheduling. If you are unable to make it, we request that you call 24 hours in advance. If your friend/family member is taking your place for the appointment, we will cancel your appointment and change the name on the appointment. Please note that we bill according to the client/patient coming for treatment.

I filled out the Patient Intake Form before. Why am I being asked to complete it again?

You will be asked to update the Patient Intake Form yearly for address changes and any health-related changes that your therapist should be aware of. Even if there are no changes, we still require a new copy of the form to be completed and for your consent to our policies to be signed annually.

Why do I need to fill out a Patient Intake Form and provide personal information?

LifeHealthMassage Therapeutic Clinic is comprised of Regulated Healthcare Professionals that perform assessment and treatment. They request your personal health information/health history to know about any conditions you have and any medications you are on, so that they understand how they may impact your treatment. They also use this information to tailor the treatment to meet your individual needs. Your personal health information is kept secure and confidential according to Heath Privacy Rights in Ontario.

Can I use my cellphone in the waiting area of the clinic?

We ask clients to have the ringer/sound off on portable devices, and not to make or receive phone calls while i the clinic. As a courtesy, please step outside of the clinic if you need to make or receive a phone call.

Is this clinic scent-free?

LifeHealthMassage Therapeutic Clinic implements a Soft Scent Policy. We ask clients to refrain from using large amounts of perfumes and other scented products.

Can I make payments ahead of an appointment time to exhaust my insurance?

No, we cannot exhaust your insurance through payments for multiple appointments to be used for future dates. We process the billing for appointment on the day. Please consider planning your treatments throughout the year to exhaust your insurance in a timely manner.

Can you bill remainder amounts to my secondary insurance?

Will I need to pay anything out of pocket?

Depending on your insurance plan, you may need to pay the remainder of your visit fee out of pocket, The insurance company may cover a limit per session/visit, even if it is listed as 100% coverage. Some insurance plans have an annual deductible that is charged the first time you submit a claim each year. You will need to pay the deductible before your insurance coverage can start.

How much insurance coverage do I have left for each category?

To protect your privacy, third parties ( including the clinic) do not have access to specific details about your insurance including eligibility for service and/or coverage for service. You will need to contact your insurance provider directly to inquire.

Do I need a prescription from a physician?

Some insurance plans require a doctor's note. Please contact your insurance provider directly before your appointment to ensure eligibility and coverage for services, and whether you will need a prescription from a physician to use your benefits. Please note that some insurance companies require a new note annually.
